What to do if your child will need Medical Care Plan in school:

The aim of the Individual Healthcare Plan is to help a learner manage their condition and overcome any potential barriers to participating fully in education. Those devising the plan should agree who will take the lead, but responsibility for ensuring it is finalised and implemented rests with the school.

IHP’s are essential where healthcare needs are complex, fluctuating, long term or where there is a high risk that an emergency intervention will be needed. However, not all learners with healthcare needs require an IHP and there should be a process in place to decide what interventions are most appropriate.
