We are looking forward to welcome parents and guardians of the Criw Cymraeg into school on Wednesday (Dydd Mercher) 13th December to celebrate Christmas together. The Criw Cymraeg members have been busy learning Welsh carols ready to sing to their families. We will also have the opportunity to make Welsh Christmas cards together.. whilst enjoying a warm drink and a mince pie! Nadolig Llawen/ Merry Christmas!’

Advantages of Learning Welsh

It keeps your brain fit and healthy!

Speaking another language makes your brain more creative
It can help you to learn other skills easier-like learning to play a guitar
It increases the amount of time you can concentrate for
Your brain is healthier when you get old

It will help you learn other languages more easily!

When you can speak two languages it is easier for your brain to learn more languages for example French
People who speak two languages can go on to learn many more

It helps you do better at school!

Children who speak two languages often get higher marks in school as they get older
It improves your memory so you can remember more information

It gives you a sense of Welsh identity and culture!

Speaking Welsh helps you to understand the street and place names around you-lots have special meanings that you may otherwise have missed!
It gives you a sense of belonging to Wales and its history

- Received our Bronze award!!!
- Established the Silver Criw Cymraeg Seesaw Account
- Created the new display in the hall
- Invited Owain from the Urdd to discuss activities
- Joined the Urdd to compete in the Eisteddfod
- Established ‘Grwp Dawnsio Stryd’ who will be representing us in the Eisteddfod at the end of February
Beth nesaf? What next?
- Discuss how we will use our finances over the year
- Re-establish Siôp Swper
- Plan for the Wythnos Cymru Cºl for whole school activities (First week back after half term- Week beginning February 24th)
- Plan for Dydd Miwisg Cymru (at the beginning of February)
- Invite schools from within the consortium to share good practice based on Cymraeg Campus

Autumn Term 2019

Targets
Targed 1 – The school’s reception reflects a contemporary vision of Wales

→ Criw Cymraeg to establish some new ideas/developments

Targed 1 – Criw Cymraeg’s updates are visible on the school’s website (including some Welsh activities to use at home)

Targed 2 – ‘Ein Hiaith’ video to be shown during an assembly

→ Learners to create a small presentation showing the advantages of learning Welsh

Targed 3 – Support staff to take advantage of using incidental Welsh in class

→ EP to send a questionnaire, then establish lunch time classes

Targed 4 – Dinner time staff to use basic Welsh phrases whilst serving the children

→ Criw Cymraeg to make posters to help, EP to provide training

Targed 5- Criw Cymraeg to introduce Cwestiwn yr Wythnos in the weekly assemblies

Targed 10 – Establish a Welsh Graffiti Wall where the Welsh question will be placed

Targed 10 – Pupils play a variety of games through the medium of Welsh

→ including Yard Games (Siarter Iaith to come to school to provide training)
Spring Term 2020
Targets
Targed 1 – Criw Cymraeg to work on project ‘Croeso’ outside the school

Targed 2 – Establish a link with another school working on Cymraeg Campus Arian

Targed 4 – Cornel Clebran to be introduced during play times

→ Criw Cymraeg to be available to talk Welsh with their peers

Targed 5– Each class assembly shows an element of Welsh

Targed 7 – School Eisteddfod to be developed

→ including competitions from the Urdd Eisteddfod’s programme (art, written work, reciting)

Targed 7 – Urdd Sport Activities (KS2 to attend)

→ EP to consult with the Urdd

Summer Term 2020

Targets
Targed 2 – Parents are invited to Welsh afternoons at school

→ sports, yard games, Cansing/Jambori

Targed 6 – Evidence of oracy activities are shown in learners books

→ QR codes

Targed 9 – KS2 to make use of a range of factual books

→ Ein Cymru Ni, A Wyddoch chi?

Targed 9 – KS2 to use pod antur books/DVD’s to introduce topic work through the medium of Welsh

→ Cross curricular opportunities

Targed 8 – KS1 / KS2 to have Welsh reading session where learners read Welsh books to each other

Autumn Term 2018

Targets
Targed 1 – Add school’s progress towards Bronze award to display.

– Criw Cymraeg to write an article for newsletter/schoop/website.

Targed 2 – CC to host poster competition encouraging others to speak Welsh.

Targed 3 – Ensure that all classes have a ’Helpwr Heddiw’ routine.

Targed 4 – Create a display for Welsh phrase of the week.

-Introduce the ‘Siop Super’.

Targed 5- CC to lead a section in each Friday assembly. Introduce a Welsh prayer for assembly.

Targed 10 – Introduce the Welsh DOJO and ‘Seren Gymraeg’ (link to Siop Super).
Spring Term 2019
Targets
Targed 1 – Add Welsh element to a display from another subject.

Targed 2 – Invite parents to take part in a Welsh activity/ event.

-School to create a link with a Welsh school via email.

Targed 3- Ensure that ALL staff know and use basic commands.

Targed 7 – Children use word processing in Welsh lessons and also make use of Welsh apps.
- A list of Welsh websites/apps to be on display in each classroom.
Targed 8 – Whole school focus on learning the Welsh alphabet.

-Welsh reading area in each classroom with suitable terminology for discussing books.

Targed 9 – Welsh to be encouraged across the curriculum, identify opportunities on planning.
Spring Term 2019
Summer Term 2019

Targets
Targed 4 – School to host a Welsh themed afternoon.

Targed 7- Include Welsh element at the Summer Fair.

-Some KS2 children to join Urdd and join their activities.

Targed 8 – Introduction of Welsh guided reading to MAT children across the school.

-Welsh reading buddies to read simple books to younger children.

Targed 9 – Indoor P.E to be taught through the medium of Welsh.

Targed 10 – Purchase Welsh games which can be borrowed by classes.

-Add a Welsh graffiti wall where children answer Welsh questions.
