Feedback on Poverty September 2023
We have valued your parental feedback which has enabled us to make considered decisions and provide opportunities to support our families where possible, through these challenging financial times.
Your opinions are important to us.
Following your response to our Questionnaires in September 2023 I would like to update you on progress that has been made to address specific issues that were highlighted:

It has been an invaluable source of support. | Once a half term we have Parent wellbeing drop ins on a Friday afternoon. We also have members of the wellbeing team on the gate at the beginning of the day. |
Breakfast Club and After Club allows us to be able to be in work and not have to worry about childcare.
Free Breakfast Club After School costs are quite high. |
£2 – 8am – 9am breakfast included. Free for all pupils whose parents claim FSM Benefits.
Due to funding cuts this is not possible for all children except those families on FSM benefits. Our price increases mean our prices are inline, if not cheaper than other local schools. Before settling on the prices, the club manager contacted the 3 other schools local to our area and spoke to them about their current prices. One other school locally has slightly lower price of £10.50 for their late session however, the latest they are open is 5:30pm. Our club is open until 6pm. There has not been a price increase since the club opened in 2017. |
Free School Dinners are great | Free for all primary pupils from Easter 2024 |
Free Uniform stall meant I only had to buy trousers for this school year. | Are you eligible to apply for the School Essentials Grant – 2023/2024? www.flintshire.gov.uk/FSM Latest News (flintshire.gov.uk) |
It would be nice for the school to offer a healthy snack, even if it has to be paid for.
All children would then have the healthy snack. |
Due to price increases for fresh fruit (Appetite for Life Welsh Government Guidelines – Appetite for Life is the Welsh Assembly Government’s plan for improving the food and drink provided in schools in Wales.) We decided it was not cost efficient to school or parents. |
Costume / Non-Uniform Days are things we worry about finding money for.
Too many activities at the end of the school year requiring different donations. Activities and events requiring a financial donation should be restricted and made aware to parents in advance. Calendar of events in advance so that parents can plan and shop for deals. |
We have created a Golftyn 2023/2024 school year timetable with potential costs to help you plan in advance. See Schoop and website. |
School uniforms are costly and many parents have experienced great difficulty in accessing. There is currently only one provider and this is not supporting a positive experience for parents when trying to access and purchase school uniform. |
We have a bank of outfits / items at school that you can use. Please contact your class teacher via Seesaw and they can support you with this. Monkhouse is our only supplier currently due to Get Logo’d closing. We have met with Queensferry Sports and will be using them as a second supplier from January 2024. Further information to follow. |
Our aim is to make considerate decisions and understand the financial pressure some families may be under, whilst still providing fun and enriching experiences for all our pupils and families.

100% of responses found the Information evenings useful | We will continue to offer an Information Evening. |
62% said they would prefer to have the Information evening at the end of the school year, in preparation for your child moving up to the next year group. | Information evenings will be moved to June /July 2024.
Information to follow. |
You would prefer the Information evening to be on multiple nights for parents who have more than one child at the school. | We will consider putting each area Explorers Nursery and Reception, Adventurers Year 1, 2 & 3 and Innovators Year 4,5 & 6 on separate nights.
We would be unable to put each year group on a separate night. |
Timings – suggestion that one session is straight after school and the other session is later to support working parents. | Current timings – 4pm – 4.30pm & 5pm – 5.30pm
We will give the timings careful thought. Teachers need time to set up after the children have left at 3/3.10pm. We would need to consider the space if all parents brought their children with them straight after school finishes as we do not have the facility to provide child care. |
More notice of the date so parents can book time off work in advance.
Request that the PowerPoint is sent out to all parents who cannot attend. |
We will ensure that the Information evening dates are sent out in advance.
The PowerPoint will be sent out to all parents via Seesaw. |
Our aim is to ensure parents have a clear understanding of class routines and what is being taught. We will continue to keep parents well informed about their child’s progress.
