Golftyn CP School – Drop off / Pick up Policy – May 2024
Whilst your child is in the care of Golftyn CP School we shall do our utmost to provide a secure environment. The safety of the children is paramount; therefore, it is very important that our procedures for drop off/collection of children are clearly known by all parents/carers and are adhered to.
Please remember that these guidelines exist to protect you and your child, as well as school staff, and that the children’s well-being is always at the heart of the decisions we make.
School Grounds and Security
The school grounds are monitored by CCTV cameras.
The school grounds are secured by fencing and gates which are locked during school hours.
The school gates will be locked at 9am, children arriving after 9am must be signed in at the school office.
The main school entrance is through the Reception/Office doors which are also locked during school hours, staff can release these doors when required.
Nursery class has a separate entrance/exit door. No access to the Main Nursery Door will be granted outside of nursery session times unless in special circumstances and at the discretion of the nursery Teacher.
Late arrivals should enter via the main school entrance and office. Pupils arriving late will be signed into the lateness log book.
Children are not allowed to leave school during the day without a parent/carer or a person who has been authorised by their parent/carer to pick them up.
Drop off procedures
Pupils should enter via their allocated door/gate by 9am.
Nursery – Class teacher will be at the main Nursery door.

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 – Enter through the main school gate or top gate, the gates are supervised by members of staff.
All school gates will be locked at 9am, children arriving after 9am must be signed in at the school office.
Please inform staff of any issues regarding your child’s well-being that may be relevant.
If your child has had an accident or injury away from the setting, please inform staff.
Collection procedures
Parents/Carers wait at their child’s allocated door/gate. Please note that at any time, only persons over the age of 16 will be permitted to pick up your child.
Nursery – Class teacher will be at the main Nursery door.
Reception, Years 1, 2 and 3 – Class Teachers/HLTAs will be on door/gate duty for each class. (Years 2 and 3 will be able to exit via the top or bottom gate).
- Teacher will call out the child’s name one at a time and this gives the child permission to leave the gathering area/class, the child will be handed over to the authorised parent/carer.
- If someone other than the person(s) authorised arrives to collect the child, it is our duty to contact the parent. Even if a known family member arrives to pick up, for safety measures, if their name is not on the contact list, we must check for permission and we will phone a priority contact from the emergency phone numbers list.
- After all pupils from the class have been handed over to their respective parent/carer, parents/carers can use the collection time to have a very brief chat with staff regarding their child, however if it is a bigger issue, we kindly ask that an appointment is made instead.
Years 4, 5 and 6 – pupils can leave via the main school gate or the top gate.
- Teachers (or the member of staff in charge ) will escort children to the relevant school gate.
- Gates will be unlocked by a member of staff.
- Pupils will be handed over to parents/carers/authorised persons, unless the parents/carers have given permission for their child to walk home by clicking on the link and completing this form. Leaving school permission form – Sept 2024 – Google Forms.
Changes to collection of pupils
If through the course of the day any changes have to be made to the stated pickup arrangements, please inform the school office to let them know as soon as possible (parents not to send a Seesaw message with this information). Please keep these changes to a minimum or in case of emergency purposes only.
Please notify us of any changes in family circumstances which may affect permission to collect, particularly in the case of separated parents/carers. Please inform us of these changes by completing an update to pupil information form on the school website.
If you are required to pick up your child earlier than usual, you must come to the main school office via the main entrance school door.
No collection
If nobody comes to collect your child (and we have not received a message), we will follow the procedure below 10 minutes after the end of the school day (3:10pm Nursery-Year 2) (3:20pm Year 3-Year 6):
- we will make every effort to contact the parents/carers and authorised person whose details have been supplied.
- If we are unable to contact the parents/carers or authorised person we will apply child protection procedures and contact children’s social services.
Late Collection
If a parent/carer is held up, or an emergency occurs and they are not able to collect a child on time due to circumstances beyond their control, we are sympathetic to these circumstances that may arise and will always seek to support families and provide a safe and secure environment for an uncollected child.
Should such a situation arise, please inform the school office as soon as possible to inform them.
Persistent Lateness
Parents/carers who are persistently late to drop off or pick-up will be expected to meet with the Head Teacher to discuss any difficulties.
We will always try our best to accommodate parents and support their circumstances wherever we can.
Registering with Golftyn After School Club will be advised if your circumstances require your child to be regularly collected outside of the normal school day.
Please ensure that all contact details are kept up to date for emergency purposes – please complete the ‘UPDATE TO PUPIL INFORMATION FORM’ on our school website – golftyncp.wales
